An Investigation into Concussion Experience Among Female Participants in Amateur Contact and Collision Sports

Women's participation in contact sport is growing — but concussion research hasn't kept up. Have you experienced a concussion due to participation in sport? If so, this study invites you to share your concussion experiences to help us better understand female athlete health and shape safer guidelines for women's sport.

It will involve you participating in a short online interview where you will discuss the instances you were concussed due to your participation in local Rugby Union, Rugby League, Soccer or AFL competitions. We want to hear about your symptoms, how your concussion was managed and what your recovery looked like. We also want to hear your thoughts on the current and growing conversation around concussion in female athletes.

Your participation will be beneficial to creating a safe and enjoyable sporting environment that focuses on equity of athlete health.

Our aim

This study aims to learn more about how female athletes experience concussion. We want to hear directly from players about their symptoms, management and recovery times to help researchers to build a clearer picture of where care and support for players can be improved.

About you

Any female athlete aged 18 years or older that sustained concussion due to participation in Rugby Union, Rugby League, AFL and/or Soccer.

What's involved

You will complete an online interview conducted by the student researcher where you discuss your experiences with concussion. The interview will take approximately 20-40 minutes and will be scheduled at a time suitable to you.
