Make a difference in your community with the Joint Program in Medicine from Charles Sturt University and Western Sydney University.
Get prepared for a rewarding career in medicine with our Bachelor of Clinical Science (Medicine) / Doctor of Medicine (MD) (Joint Program). Study regionally, both on our Orange campus and at our rural clinical schools and be at the cutting edge of the future of medicine in Australia. Be part of the next generation of high-quality medical professionals, equipped with the knowledge and experience to champion the health of our rural, regional and remote communities. At Charles Sturt University’s School of Rural Medicine, we aim to train students with the skills they’ll need to work as a rural doctor. With a focus on rural generalist medicine, students will develop an understanding of the different role rural doctors play, in primary and acute care settings – and highlight their importance in the functioning of our healthcare system.
The Bachelor of Clinical Science (Medicine) / Doctor of Medicine (MD) (Joint Program) is a five-year undergraduate degree that qualifies students to be a medical intern/doctor in Australia and New Zealand. So that students are ready for graduate practise, they will learn through a problem-based learning hybrid program, starting with two years of campus-based learning in the basic sciences (anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology, pharmacology, physiology and population health), clinical skills and evidence-based medicine. From year three, most of the student training is spent in clinical placements that cover the broad range of general, specialist and inter-professional training necessary to prepare students for their medical internship. Students also undertake a research project during the clinical years.
