Brendan graduated from ANU Medical School in 2013 and completed his internship with the ACT Health Service. He then spent his residency at Broome Hospital working in rural and remote environments with a strong focus on Indigenous Health. Brendan has worked as both an ACRRM and Medical Registrar, and most recently worked in the ACT as a locum General Medicine Advanced Trainee.

Brendan also spent time as the Senior Medical Registrar at Calvary Hospital where he assisted with the organisation of the local Basic Physician Training program and examinations. Brendan developed an interest in clinical education training during this time, and encouraged teaching of junior medical staff on the wards.

Brendan currently works on the clinical curriculum team at the Rural School of Medicine at Charles Sturt University, and is involved as a teacher and tutor in the Clinical Skills program. He aims to continue in a role to develop the clinical skills curriculum at Charles Sturt University and identify areas for research in this field.

Professional Memberships

Brendan is a member of the Australia and New Zealand Association of Health Professionals Education (ANZAHPE) and the International Association for Health Professionals Education (AAME).

Brendan teaches Problem-Based Learning and Clinical Medicine classes at the Rural Medical School.

Brendan’s main research interests are in clinical reasoning, ethics and rural medicine in clinical reasoning and curriculum development.

Brendan is planning to undertake evaluative research in clinical reasoning in the pre-clinical curriculum in the near future.
