Professor Damien Limberger was a graduate of the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Faculty of Medicine Rural Student Entry Scheme program. He completed three years of medical training at the Wagga Wagga Rural Clinical School. He has practiced medicine in rural communities since 2005 and specialises as a rural procedural General Practitioner Obstetrician and Surgeon. In 2013, he established the UNSW Griffith Rural Clinical School campus. Professor Damien Limberger has worked as a GP Obstetrician and Executive Clinical Director at Griffith Base Hospital.

Professor Damien Limberger is an experienced rural health educator. He has developed and delivered rural health education to Medical Students, Junior Medical Officers, Registrars, Specialist Medical Officers, Nurses and Allied Health Professionals. As the Head of the UNSW Rural Clinical School Griffith Campus he developed innovative teaching methods to enhance student learning including simulated learning programs. He has coordinated medical student clinical placements and collaborated with clinicians to develop new clinical placements and learning opportunities for medical students. He developed the research capacity at the Griffith campus to support MD research projects for medical students.

As Director of Post Graduate Education and Training for the Murrumbidgee Local Health District, Professor Damien Limberger developed training pathways with local health districts and specialist colleges for registrars to support rural training pathways. He developed education programs for Junior Medical Officers, Registrars and Specialist Medical Officers. He was Co-Director of the Clinical Education and Training Unit and was responsible for the development and delivery of interdisciplinary education and training across the Murrumbidgee Local Health District. Professor Damien Limberger is a supervisor and educator for GP registrars. He is a course director and instructor for Advanced Life Support.

Professor Damien Limberger has research interests in health education, rural health care systems, quality and improvement in healthcare and general practice. He is a project supervisor for medical student MD research projects.
