Kelly has held a number of senior leadership and management positions at Charles Sturt including Associate Head of School for the School of Dentistry and Health Sciences, Discipline Lead and Course Coordinator; and at CQUniversity, Head of Program for the medical imaging and medical sonography programs in their inaugural year. Currently Kelly is the Associate Head of School for Medical Radiation Science and Pharmacy and Head of Discipline for Medical Radiation Science.

Kelly has a broad undergraduate and post graduate teaching and research interest in all modalities across the medical radiation sciences and currently coordinates the final year of the Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (with specialisations) course.

Kelly was awarded Fellowship of the Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (ASMIRT) in 2016 and is the current chair of the ASMIRT Breast Imaging Reference Group (BIRG).

Research interests include:
  • Mammographic image quality and image evaluation systems
  • Mammography positioning techniques and training
  • Quality assurance in breast imaging
  • Visual grading analysis
  • Computed tomography (CT)

Current projects focus on the PGMI image evaluation system; benchmarking and evidence based practice in mammographic image quality analysis; mammography and pacemakers, off centring in diagnostic CT and coned beam breast CT.

Current HDR supervision/Projects:

(Primary supervisor) PhD: Development and Validation of a Visual Grading Scale for Assessing Image Quality of Breast Images

(Co supervisor) PhD: The impact of patient off-centring on CT number and radiation dose during CT imaging

(Primary Supervisor): Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Medical Imaging) (Honours) Mammography: Approaches to Imaging Women with Cardiac Implantable Electronic Devices (CIEDs) in Australia

Project: Creating an evidence base for deodorant use in mammography.
