BPharm, MPharm, PhD BiomedSci Dr Hanafy completed BPharm and MPharm at Cairo University, Egypt, where she researched the chemical composition and bioactivities of white floss silk tree which resulted in five publications. She then moved to Australia to complete her PhD in BiomedSci at Charles Sturt University, where she explored the phenolic content and the properties of bioactive extracts from a wide range of mint (Mentha) species and their interaction at the cellular and molecular levels in the pathways implicated in Alzheimer's Disease. This research has resulted in four publications in highly ranked peer-reviewed journals. Since finishing her PhD, Dr Hanafy has worked with several research teams at CSU. She was appointed lecturer in Medical Science and Pathology at CSU in July 2023. Dr Hanafy has been teaching since 2017 for both internal (on-campus) and online (distance) modes across Medical Science, Food Science, Pharmacy, as well as Natural Sciences disciplines, applying contemporary approaches in teaching. Dr Hanafy’s overall goal in teaching and learning is to provide a high-quality experience allowing students to understand complex concepts in a simplified and enjoyable way. She has been also involved in subject design and development. Dr Hanafy was awarded, together with other members of the Pharmacy Teaching Team, the School of Biomedical Sciences Excellence Award for subject delivery in 2019. Dr Hanafy has completed the Contemporary Approaches to University Teaching Course (MOOC (Massive Open Online Course)) in 2022 and is currently undertaking a Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education in order to deepen her knowledge and expand her teaching skills. Dr Hanafy’s research interests include isolation, characterization, and structural elucidation of secondary metabolites from natural sources, such as medicinal plants, food or grains, as well as investigation of their biological activities and mechanism of action at the cellular and molecular levels. She is interested in the cellular biochemical pathways that are modulated in health and disease and the use of natural products as potential therapeutics.Medical Science and Pathology
