Dr. Boris Budiono graduated from the Heart Foundation Research Centre, Griffith University in 2017 with a PhD in Cardiovascular Physiology & Molecular Biology after completing a Bachelor of Biomedical Science with 1st class honours at Griffith University, Gold Coast. His research topic investigated the mechanisms & properties of exercise-induced cardioprotection in mouse models. In 2016, he was a CRN Research Fellow at Bond University studying the molecular processes underlying skeletal muscle atrophy both animal and human exercised models in the Advancing Exercise & Sport Science group, before returning back to teaching in 2017/2018 as a Head Tutor in School of Medical Science, Griffith University and later Lecturer in Anatomy & Physiology at Griffith College. He is passionate about teaching and research, and aims to impart his enthusiasm and knowledge to students.

In 2019, he joins CS Port Macquarie as a Biomedical Science lecturer teaching Physiology, Pharmacology and Neuroscience to first and second year Allied Health students. From 2022, he is based in Wagga Wagga teaching Molecular Biology, Human Genetics, Pathophysiology, and WPL subjects.

Boris formally commenced in academia in 2017, teaching Anatomy & Physiology, Pharmacology and Cell/Molecular Biology subjects at Griffith University as head tutor, before becoming a Lecturer in Anatomy & Physiology at Griffith College in 2018. He had previously taught as a casual academic for many years at Griffith University and University of Southern Queensland, for foundation year subjects in School of Nursing, and School of Medical Science. He thoroughly enjoys encouraging students to achieve their best, with effective delivery of course content, deep understanding of the student’s needs, and has consistently achieved top student evaluations at Griffith University and Charles Sturt University for his teaching. He  has been a subject convenor for CSU since 2019.

Boris’ research interests are varied but include: the effects of physical activity & inactivity, diabetes, inflammation, pharmacology, population health & molecular basis of exercise adaptations and ischaemic injury. He is also passionate about educational research, genomics & proteomics, and most recently has commenced qualitative and quantitative research in Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome.

Boris has won numerous awards in his research including an International Travel Scholarship to the US from the National Heart Foundation of Australia, Three Minute Thesis Competition Finalist, and the Bio-Rad Best Student Poster Presentation at Gold Coast Health and Medical Research Conference. During his time as a researcher he has presented both oral and poster presentations in numerous local, national and international conferences. He is also passionate about postgraduate training, and has trained and supervised many students from undergraduate to doctoral level in the research lab. Boris is keen to collaborate with other researchers and is seeking opportunities in research projects.
