Shayne is a Senior Lecturer in Diagnostic Radiography at Charles Sturt University. Shayne also holds adjunct senior positions at University of Canberra and University of Exeter (UK), with expertise in computed tomography (CT), diagnostic radiography, and neuroimaging biomarkers. Shayne is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia (HERDSA). Shayne has worked as a CT and ED radiographer in both public and private health settings.

He graduated from the University of Sydney and Flinders University with post-graduate qualifications in Computed Tomography/Image Interpretation and Clinical Education, respectively. Shayne was awarded First Class Honours in the Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Medical Imaging) and is now completing his Doctor of Philosophy. In addition, he has authored several peer-reviewed publications, and frequently presented at national and international conferences.

Shayne is a medical radiation practitioner, specializing in trauma radiography, computed tomography, and neuroimaging. As a senior lecturer, researcher, policy officer, and journal editor, Shayne has made significant contributions to the international radiography and higher education communities. Shayne's teaching philosophy integrates practical expertise with academic rigor, focusing on developing a comprehensive curriculum that aligns with accreditation standards.

Shayne's dedication to education is further evidenced by his development of comprehensive clinical handbooks and guidelines. Shayne has consistently demonstrated leadership in curriculum development, and their initiatives have markedly improved student performance, satisfaction, and retention.

Shayne has authored several journal articles in teaching and learning and three edited textbooks, two focusing on computed tomography and one on person-centered care. These texts have greatly served as essential teaching resources in medical radiation programs.

Shayne’s research interests encompass a diverse range of topics in the field of medical imaging, with a particular focus on neuroimaging and oncology. Since 2019, Shayne has published 30 journal articles, 3 edited textbooks, and 10 book chapters. Shayne currently undertakes research and supervises students in the following themes/concentrations:

  • Oncology and Cancer Care
  • Neurosciences, particularly the long-term effects of stimulant drug use on movement-related brain regions
  • Neuroimaging methods, including the use of transcranial sonography and nigrosome-1 MRI for Parkinson’s disease
  • Radiation dose management and diagnostic accuracy of imaging methods
  • Educational methods in Medical Radiation Sciences
