Prabhu is a dental professional, oral health educator and an emerging researcher. He completed specialist training in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics from India, and a PhD in Dental Public Health from La Trobe Rural Health School.

Prior to joining CSU, Prabhu built his research portfolio in rural and remote health, working as a Research Fellow at the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence for Strengthening Health Systems in Remote Australia, Menzies School of Health Research in the Northern Territory. His research was critical in highlighting the plight of oral health care in remote Australia and the retention of remote health workforce. In his current role with CSU, he continues to advocate for improved rural and remote health outcomes and help build the future oral health workforce.

Prabhu holds Honorary positions with Population Oral Health at the University of Sydney Dental School and the Menzies School of Health Research.

Prabhu has a broad range of clinical and didactic teaching experience within undergraduate and postgraduate dentistry programs. He currently handles subjects relating to Community Oral Health in the Bachelor of Oral Health course.

Prabhu’s research interests primarily focus on reducing oral health disparities, particularly among underserved rural and remote populations. His research spans areas of oral health equity, access to health care and health services research, and health workforce planning, distribution and retention.

Having gained a deep understanding of unique challenges in both oral health and primary health care services in rural and remote Australia, Prabhu’s current research focuses on exploring innovative models of care to promote integrated oral health care, in close partnership with communities, health services and other key stakeholders.
