BMedSci, GradDip (MLS), MMedSci (MLS), GCTE, PhD AProf Santhakumar is the Associate Head of School – Research and Graduate studies; and Associate Head of School – Medical Science and Pathology, at the School of Dentistry and Medical Sciences. As the Head of program for the Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science course, he has led several professional accreditations by the Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists (AIMS). He is the Chair of the AIMS NSW & ACT branch, Member of the AIMS Southwest division and the Director of the AIMS National Board. AProf Santhakumar is a Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (FIBMS), Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK), and a full member of the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists (MAIMS). AProf Santhakumar has more than 10 years of academic teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate level in Medical Laboratory Science (Pathology). His teaching expertise is the field of Haematology and Blood transfusion science. AProf Santhakumar’s teaching practices and scholarship in learning and teaching has a significant focus on student work readiness, engagement, and graduate employability. He received the Charles Sturt University Excellence Award – Successful Graduates in 2019 in recognition of his contribution to student learning. AProf Santhakumar’s research investigates the role of natural dietary antioxidant compounds in reducing the risk factors of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. During his research tenure, he has led nationally registered human clinical trials investigating the feasibility and efficacy of natural antioxidant compounds as therapeutic alternatives in diverse pro-thrombotic and at-risk populations. He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters and received the Faculty Research Excellence award (2021) for the Top 5 most productive Male researchers. His strong research and scholarship are demonstrated by successful completion of number of PhDs, Masters by Research and Honours graduated under her supervision.
