Dr. Naung has been serving as a Senior Lecturer and Academic Lead in Oral Surgery at the Centre for Rural Dentistry and Oral Health, Charles Sturt University (CSU) Dental and Oral Health Clinics, since 2022.

Dr. Naung worked as a Consultant, Specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at internationally accredited hospitals in Myanmar, where he practiced the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, ranging from dentoalveolar and oral surgery to facial trauma reconstruction. Dr. Naung served as an Anatomy and Dentistry lecturer at CSU and as a Medicine and Dentistry tutor at the University of Otago for six years. In Australia, he worked at Nepean, Westmead, Campbelltown, and Sydney Dental Hospitals, providing full-scope oral surgery services under local anaesthesia, Nitrous Oxide sedation, and general anaesthesia (GA).

Dr. Noel Ye Naung received his B.D.S. degree from Myanmar, a Higher Graduate Diploma and M.Sc. in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from Prince of Songkla University, Thailand, and a Ph.D. from the University of Otago, New Zealand. He also earned a Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education from Charles Sturt University, Australia, and a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry from the University of Sydney, Australia. Dr. Naung also completed a one-year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery International Fellowship at the University of Kentucky, U.S.A. He is a fellow of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (FIAOMS).

Dr. Naung has attended and presented at numerous international seminars, conferences, and oral surgery training courses. He has published in several renowned international peer-reviewed journals, including Dental Clinics of North America, Craniomaxillofacial Trauma & Reconstruction, Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Journal of Oral Sciences, and Journal of Oral Biology and Craniofacial Research.

Dr. Naung is the Subject Coordinator and Academic Lead in Oral Surgery, responsible for both clinical and didactic teaching of the DOH347 Foundations of Oral Surgery and DOH417 Oral Surgery subjects.

Additionally, he serves as a guest lecturer for the following subjects:

Dr. Naung is a member of Rural Health Institute and has a wide range of research interests, particularly in the following areas:

  • Bone marrow and periosteum-derived human mesenchymal stem cells and bone tissue engineering
  • Molecular biological analysis of mesenchymal stem cells using techniques such as Flow Cytometry, Immunohistochemistry, Gene Expression Analysis (real-time qPCR), ELISA, and Protein Assays
  • The role of Vitamin B6, B12, and Homocysteine in Cleft Lip and Palate
  • Bone grafts, guided bone regeneration, and dental implants
  • Periosteum as GBR membrane
  • Clinical oral surgery, maxillofacial surgery, oral medicine and oral pathology research
  • Periosteum as a membrane for Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR)
  • Regeneration and Repair of Periodontal tissues
