An exciting part of the Dentistry degree involves on the job training through Workplace Learning (WPL).

To assist with the Workplace Learning (WPL) journey, the following tabs contain important information and guides to ensure students are aware of their WPL requirements.

The following indicates compulsory Workplace Learning (WPL) components:

Bachelor of Dental Science (4409DS)

  • DOH256 Foundations of Dental Clinical Practice 2 (72 hours)
  • DOH336 Prosthodontics 1 (84 hours)
  • DOH337 Foundations of Dental Clinical Practice 3 (98 hours)
  • DOH404 Dental Clinical Practice 4 (345 hours)
  • DOH484 Dental Clinical Practice 5 (960 hours)

Graduate Diploma of Dental Implantology (4416DI)

  • DOH507 Clinical Implant Dentistry (480 hours and 9 day Intensive school)

Note: only 2025 course information available for  Graduate Diploma of Dental Implantology - Study (csu.edu.au)

It is mandatory as a Charles Sturt University student to maintain specific prerequisite requirements throughout their degree. These include NSW Health compliance requirements and Charles Sturt University Workplace Learning pre-requisites. The following information will assist to achieve compliance.

NSW Health requirements - Mandatory

Due first year of study and no later than 30 June

  • Australian National Police Check
  • NSW Health Code of Conduct
  • Immunisations and Vaccinations
  • Influenza vaccination
  • COVID-19 vaccination

Once NSW compliance requirements are obtained, email them to FOSH-WPL@csu.edu.au for processing. Please enter in the email subject line your: Student ID / Student name / Discipline / Compliance.

Charles Sturt University WPL requirements - Mandatory

Due first year of study and no later than 30 June

  • First Aid including CPR
  • Working with Children Checks
  • Uniforms & ID Badge

Charles Sturt University WPL requirements - Highly Recommended

  • Mental Health First Aid

Once Charles Sturt University WPL requirements are obtained, instructions on how to upload to InPlace can be found on the above Faculty of Science and Health Interact2 site.

To support your Workplace Learning journey the following services will provide you with important information:

  • Student support services – Student Charter, Financial support, technical support, Special Consideration, Make a complaint and Appeals and reviews.
  • Support and wellbeing services – Access to Disability services, First Nations students, International students, Research students, LGBTIQA+ students, Refugee students, Elite athletes.
  • Three Rivers Department of Rural Health – Support for eligible students with subsidised accommodation or financial assistance while on placement in the Three Rivers locations, Online learning modules, access to the Charles Sturt Student Rural Health Club, rural career opportunities and pathways to further health study. Students can also access the UDRH map here which has all of the UDRH mapped across Australia with contact details to check their placement locations.
  • Scholarships and Grants – Access to apply for Charles Sturt University Scholarships and Grants and also from external providers.
  • WorkPlace Health and Safety Incident management reporting – reporting an incident or hazard within
    24hrs or as soon as possible after the event via the Protecht online form
  • Insurance - contact the Student Liaison Officer for further information  or support.
