SFHEA, B.App.Sc.(Phys), MHlthSc(OMT), PhD, Grad Cert Research Management Narelle’s teaching, research and leadership philosophy has evolved from her extensive professional, workplace learning, academic, research and leadership experience that has been grounded in a social justice framework and a genuine desire to assist people to reach their full potential in relation to wellbeing and education. Over many years of practical experience, scholarship and research Narelle has developed a significant level of expertise and knowledge in the area of workplace learning. Narelle’s award of Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy evidences this achievement. Narelle’s co-edited book “Developing practice capability: Transforming workplace learning” has broken new ground in workplace learning and enables exploration of innovative workplace learning approaches. Narelle has also authored peer reviewed articles and book chapters and presented at many National and International conferences. In her current role, Narelle works collaboratively with academic and administrative staff to enhance workplace learning and accreditation processes and experiences across the Faculty of Science. Narelle has extensive experience in professional and practice-based education both in university and workplace contexts. This experience encompasses work as a clinical educator, workplace learning coordinator, lecturer and program lead and academic advisor around practice-based education pedagogy. Narelle has taught in a range of discipline specific and inter-professional subjects at pre-registration and post graduate levels, as well as in face to face and online modes. At the heart of Narelle’s learning and teaching activities is her desire to assist people (students and academics) to reach their full potential through the development of authentic relationships. Innovations in teaching Narelle developed and implemented an innovative photo-elicitation teaching strategy into her post graduate teaching in the Graduate Certificate of Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. This strategy enhanced student engagement with and understanding of course content. Narelle facilitated a workshop on the implementation of this strategy at the Higher Education Academy Conference 2017 at Manchester. Narelle is particularly interested in qualitative research methods such as hermeneutics and using creative research and teaching strategies (e.g. visual methods) to develop new understandings and enhance student learning. Narelle’s doctoral research, which explored the influence of context on physiotherapy students’ clinical learning, has broken new ground in the field of workplace learning. Narelle’s use of photo-elicitation as a text construction strategy has contributed to the field of visual research methodology and provided a spring board for further research deepening understanding of photo-elicitation as a powerful learning and teaching strategy.
