Patience commenced work as a Registered Nurse in 2002 in Zimbabwe, to which she amassed wide nursing experience in the following specialities; medical/surgical nursing, paediatric nursing, critical care nursing, emergency care nursing, midwifery and nursing education. Patience migrated to Australia in 2008, and has gained great nursing expertise in surgical and theatre nursing. Patience’s current specialties are surgical nursing and academia. In the nursing career, Patience has worked in various capacities which include; Registered Nurse, Clinical Nurse Instructor (CNE), Clinical Nurse Specialist, Acting Nurse Unit Manager and Lecturer in Nursing. Since 2016, Patience has worked as a Lecturer in Nursing and also worked on a casual basis as a Registered Nurse in various acute health care contexts. Working as a Lecturer in Nursing, Patience‘s academic focus is to empower students to be equipped with excellent clinical reasoning skills and clinical professional capabilities to be able to apply evidence based practice to work safely within the dynamic health care context.

Patience completed her Masters of Advanced Nursing practice with the University of Newcastle, Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching at Charles Sturt University and Graduate certificate in Medical/Surgical Nursing with the College of Nursing.

Patience has convened and taught in diploma and undergraduate courses, contributed to the development of the Diploma and Bachelor of Nursing curriculum to which the subject content has focused on current evidence-based health care practice.

Patience has contributed to teaching at a tertiary level through a wide range of teaching and learning delivery modes such as online and face-to-face; conducting clinical teaching and clinical based assessments; and also assisting in the development and review of the curriculum, policy directives and practice procedures to ensure that this is focused on current evidence-based health care practice.

Patience upholds Professional memberships with the Australian College of Nursing, National Rural Health Alliance, NSWNA and American Head and Neck association.

Patience is involved in the Australian College of Nursing NSW-Central/Far West Region Leadership role as a Secretariat.

Patience is an approved academic mentor to the Congress of Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander Nurses and Midwives (CATSINaM) and supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander nurses for retention within the nursing profession while also providing strategies for further development of their nursing careers.

Patience is a credentialed Mental Health First Aid provider.
