Tim is an Associate Lecturer in paramedicine at Charles Sturt University, where he teaches into postgraduate critical care and undergraduate paramedic science subjects. He is currently completing a Master of Philosophy, with intent to convert to a PhD, focusing on the scope of practice and credentialling pipelines for Intensive Care, Critical Care, and MICA paramedics within Australian civilian, ground-based paramedicine.
Before moving into academia, Tim worked as an Intensive Care Paramedic with NSW Ambulance, bringing over a decade of frontline clinical experience to his teaching and research. His broader research interests include the development of advanced paramedic practice as a recognised specialty, the design of modern ambulance systems, and the application of AI tools to support clinical education and practice.
Tim holds undergraduate qualifications in prehospital clinical practice and Arts (psychology, education, and criminology), and brings a background spanning clinical practice, education, and academia to his work.
Tim is currently teaching in both undergraduate and postgraduate courses connected to the Paramedic Science Course, distance and on campus. He has a background of Paramedic mentoring and training, peer lead teaching as an undergraduate student, school age outdoor education, high school teaching and history tuition.
Tim's research focuses on advanced paramedic practice within Australian civilian, ground-based paramedicine, with a particular interest in how Intensive Care, Critical Care, and MICA paramedic roles are defined, credentialled, and deployed across jurisdictions. His current project, undertaken as part of an MPhil at Charles Sturt University with intent to convert to a PhD, is a scoping review examining the training pipelines and credentialling pathways for advanced paramedic scope of practice, addressing a gap between rapid clinical role expansion and the evidence base underpinning it.
His broader research program extends to international comparisons of advanced paramedic systems, candidate selection and training model design, and the application of AI tools in clinical education and ambulance service delivery. He also maintains a research interest in military paramedicine, collaborating with colleagues in ambulance services and the Australian Defence Force.
Tim's work draws on a clinical background as a former Intensive Care Paramedic with NSW Ambulance, combined with formal training in education and behavioural science.
