Driven by purpose and compassion, we strive to transform healthcare in rural and remote communities by advancing knowledge, empowering practitioners, and delivering evidence-based care that truly makes a difference.
Our research strategy at the School of Nursing, Paramedicine, and Healthcare Sciences is grounded in our priority Fields of Research (FoR) codes, including Health Services and Systems (4203), Nursing (4205), Midwifery (4204), Paramedicine (320219) and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health (4504). By focusing on these key areas, we aim to address pressing healthcare challenges, especially in rural and remote communities, while advancing knowledge and clinical practice across these disciplines. Our dynamic research culture fosters partnerships with industry, interdisciplinary collaboration, and innovative solutions to improve health outcomes.
Guided by our vision to promote wellness, we empower the healthcare workforce to connect with rural and regional communities through impactful research, high-quality education, and practical application. In Paramedicine (320219), our efforts target enhancing out-of-hospital care, advancing clinical practice, and addressing disparities in emergency and non-emergency healthcare.
Our Nursing (4205) research emphasises evidence-based care, chronic disease management, and practice development tailored to regional health needs. With Health Services and Systems (4203) efforts are directed toward health workforce sustainability, digital health and wellbeing across communities. Our approach in Health Services and Systems seeks to optimise healthcare delivery and accessibility, contributing to the well-being of diverse populations across regional and remote Australia. We are also expanding our capacity in Midwifery (4204), aiming to improve maternity care for childbearing families, maternal and neonatal outcomes, particularly in rural areas. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health (4504) remains a key focus, where we engage with First Nations communities to ensure culturally safe research and address health disparities.
Our school is focused on enhancing our research capabilities by securing successful research grants and building a strong cohort of higher degree research students. We strategically align our efforts to address critical healthcare challenges by prioritising the Fields of Research (FoR) codes:
This focus not only strengthens our grant applications but also ensures that our research projects are impactful and relevant to the needs of our communities. Our commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and industry partnerships further amplifies our research outcomes, fostering innovation and practical solutions in healthcare.
To secure the future of our research profile, we are actively building a robust cohort of higher degree research students. These students are integral to advancing our research agenda, bringing fresh perspectives and innovative approaches to our priority and emerging research areas. By providing comprehensive support and mentorship, we empower our students to undertake significant research projects that contribute to the body of knowledge in Nursing, Paramedicine, Midwifery, Health Services, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health. This investment in the next generation of researchers ensures the sustainability and growth of our research impact, driving continuous improvement in healthcare practices and outcomes.
