Charles Sturt University aligns our research, policies, procedures, and other work with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These are the most relevant SDGs for this initiative.
The School of Nursing, Paramedicine, and Healthcare Sciences advances multiple United Nations SDGs through its diverse initiatives. Our work supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being by improving access to mental health services, enhancing out-of-hospital care, supporting chronic disease awareness and prevention, expanding rural maternity care, and providing breastfeeding support. We also advance healthcare roles and clinical care across nursing, paramedicine, midwifery, and allied health disciplines, while improving access to primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare to meet the needs of rural and regional communities.
Aligned with SDG 4: Quality Education, we develop pathways to higher degree research, integrate advanced simulation in training, and emphasise evidence-based practice to equip healthcare professionals for the unique challenges of regional and rural areas. We address SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities by tackling disparities in healthcare access for underserved populations, particularly in areas where essential services like maternity units are closing.
Our partnerships with local health districts, First Nations communities, and other stakeholders further SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, enabling collaborative solutions to regional healthcare challenges. Through sustainable healthcare practices, workforce development, and the graduation of a diverse cohort of students, we also align with SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, fostering resilient and vibrant rural populations. Together, these efforts advance health, education, and sustainability across our regions.
