Brian has worked in emergency health care, ambulance communications, and education before commencing an academic career teaching cultural awareness and law to health care students in both nursing and paramedicine. In 2008, Brian completed a PhD investigating nursing students’ experiences of the off campus clinical setting.

Brian has demonstrated ability in leading and project managing large, externally funded projects, to increase the capacity for workplace learning across a range of health care disciplines.

Brian is currently undertaking research investigating paramedic students’ perceptions of LGBTQI discrimination in their learning environment.

Brian’s current responsibilities include Associate Head of School – First Nations Health, Midwifery and Health Management and Leadership.

Brian has an interest in curriculum design and the inclusion of First Nations and LGBTQI people into the health care curriculum. Teaching areas include:

  • Research

  • Paramedic systems and governance
  • Perceptions of LGBTQI discrimination in the health curriculum
  • Hegemonic masculinity in emergency services
  • Leadership
  • Health Law and ethics
  • Student experience of off campus clinical placement
  • Workplace bullying

Brian currently supervises a number of Honours and Masters students undertaking a range of clinical and non-clinical projects.
