Yanfei is a physiotherapist‑trained academic. She completed her Master’s at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and her PhD at The University of Queensland (UQ), followed by a competitive postdoctoral fellowship at UQ’s RECOVER Injury Research Centre. She is now a lecturer at Charles Sturt University.

Her research focuses on mechanisms, risk factors, intervention development, and the implementation of evidence‑based care for musculoskeletal pain, particularly nonspecific neck pain and whiplash. She has published in leading Q1 journals including PAIN, JOSPT, and the Journal of Pain, with work that has informed international policies and contributed to patents.

She has secured more than AUD $760K in research funding as a chief investigator and delivered over 30 national and international conference presentations, including leading a topical session at the 2024 IASP World Congress on Pain. Her work has been recognised with four presentation awards, including Best Poster at the 2021 Australian Pain Conference.

Yanfei has experience in teaching a range of subjects, including research methods, interprofessional learning and physiotherapy.

At CSU, she primarily teaches Research Foundations for Health, Sport and Exercise Sciences (HIP102).

Yanfei’s research interests include musculoskeletal pain, rehabilitation, digital health, implementation science, and health equity.

Yanfei is a member of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) and the Australian Pain Society. She serves as an invited member of the IASP’s Open-Science Task Force within the Early Career Network and its Developing Countries Working Group. She also contributes to the Social Media Committee for Musculoskeletal Science and Practice.
