Chemical Safety Data Sheets

A Safety Data Sheet (SDS) contains detailed information about the hazardous chemical including important information for safely managing risks, health hazards, safe storage, handling and disposal methods.

You can obtain an SDS from the chemical supplier. The manufacturer/supplier/importer must update each of their SDS’s at least every five years.

A copy of the SDS for all hazardous chemicals should be stored in the facility where the chemical is being used or stored.

CSU uses ChemWatch (ChemFFX) as the chemical and SDS management system.

Safety Data sheets for imported or manufactured chemicals

If you are importing or manufacturing chemicals you are required under the Model Code of Practice (Preparation of safety data sheets for hazardous chemicals: WHS Regulation 330) to prepare an SDS compliant with Australian standards. The SDS must be updated every 5 years.
