An exciting part of the Mental Health degree involves on the job training through Work Integrated Learning (WIL).

To assist with the WIL journey, the following tabs contain important information and guides to ensure students are aware of the WIL requirements.

The following indicates compulsory Work Integrated Learning (WIL) components:

Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health) - (4409MH)

  • MHP117 - Mental Health Clinical 1 (120 hours/15 days)
  • MHP219 - Mental Health Clinical 2 (240 hours/30 days)
  • MHP320 - Mental Health Clinical 3 (320 hours/40 days)

    • The duration, as written in Handbook

    *Based on an 8hr/day calculation

It is mandatory as a Charles Sturt University student to obtain and maintain NSW Health compliance requirements and complete site-specific compliance throughout your degree.

When do I need to be compliant by?

You will need to be compliant no later than 31 May

  • Australian National Police Check
  • NSW Health Code of Conduct
  • Immunisations and Vaccinations
  • Flu Season June-September - Annual Influenza vaccination

NSW Health student compliance requirements - Highly Recommended

  • COVID-19 vaccination evidence
  • Fit Testing certification

Where do I send my NSW Health student compliance documentation?

When sending documents to NSW Health please enter in the email subject line: CSU / Student ID / Student Name / Mental Health Professionals / Compliance
Important Note: Any emails sent to NSW Health missing the above details in the subject line will not  receive a response.

Handy hint: You will need to send NSW Health your flu vaccination every year!

Charles Sturt University student compliance requirements - Mandatory

  • Annual Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate (CPR)
  • Student Placement ID Card
  • Working with Children Check (WWCC)

Site-specific requirements

Some of our Placement partners require specific documentation or requirements to attend placement at their facility. Students will be notified of any site requirements.

To assist with the Work Integrated Learning journey the following services provide important information:

  • Student support services – Student Charter, Financial support, technical support, Special Consideration, Make a complaint and Appeals and reviews.
  • Support and wellbeing services – Access to Disability services, First Nations students, International students, Research students, LGBTIQA+ students, Refugee students, Elite athletes.
  • Three Rivers Department of Rural Health – Support for eligible students with subsidised accommodation or financial assistance while on placement in the Three Rivers locations, Online learning modules, access to the Charles Sturt Student Rural Health Club, rural career opportunities and pathways to further health study. Students can also access the UDRH map here which has all of the UDRH mapped across Australia with contact details to check their placement locations.
  • Scholarships and Grants – Access to apply for Charles Sturt University Scholarships and Grants and also from external providers.
  • WorkPlace Health and Safety Incident management reporting – reporting an incident or hazard within
    24hrs or as soon as possible after the event via the Protecht online form
  • Insurance - Work Integrated Learning Student Insurance
