Lecturer in Occupational Therapy

Emma is an Occupational Therapist with extensive experience in the field of psychiatric rehabilitation and recovery oriented mental health services. Her major career highlights include the development, implementation and evaluation of evidence- based employment and education programs within mental health services across NSW. Emma is passionate about ensuring equitable access to employment support for people with a lived experience of mental illness and contributing to local practice-based research in this field.

Emma has also worked extensively in student support services within the university setting and has contributed to teaching Occupational Therapy students as a casual academic. Emma currently works part time as the Workplace Learning Co-ordinator for the Occupational Therapy program based at Port Macquarie.

Emma is a graduate of the University of Newcastle and is originally from regional NSW.

Emma has been involved in teaching undergraduate Occupational therapy students as a casual academic for over 10 years, contributing to education in the field of mental health (vocational rehabilitation, co-occurring substance use treatment, and occupational therapy approaches to treating eating disorders). More recently, Emma has contributed to supporting Occupational Therapy students with practice based/workplace learning.

Implementation of evidence-based models of employment and education supports in mental health in the Australian context. Increasing understanding of partnership approaches, and training and education of support staff in the mental health sector.
