Sarah is a dedicated academic with a PhD in Cell Biology and Protein Biochemistry from Charles Sturt University in 2021. Sarah developed a university-wide support for students program, embedding tutors into key first-year undergraduate subjects to increase student engagement.

The Program was recognised nationally for its impact on student retention and success, particularly for equity cohorts and students from underrepresented backgrounds. Her efforts in enhancing student success in higher education has been recognised nationally with the prestigious 2022 Australian Award for University Teaching Program award (Student experience that supports diversity and inclusive practices) as well as a 2022 ASCILITE innovation award and was a finalist in the 2023 Australian Financial Review Educational Awards (Equity and Inclusion).

With over a decade of clinical experience as a Medical Scientist, Sarah enriches her academic teaching and research with clinical expertise and practical experience. in 2024, after teaching and tutoring at Charles Sturt, she was appointed as Lecturer in Animal Anatomy and Physiology. She teaches cell biology and animal anatomy and physiology to veterinary and animal science students. Sarah is committed to excellence in her teaching, promoting inclusive teaching through implementing universal design for learning (UDL) and a pedagogy of kindness.

Sarah’s research has focussed on modelling pancreatic cancer tumourigenesis using mouse xenograft models and identification of a novel mechanism for fibril formation from Acot7 protein. Her research interests include medical science, cell biology and protein biochemistry, student retention and success, transition pedagogy, and initiatives in learning and teaching in higher education. She continues to advance inclusive teaching practices and enhance the first-year student experience at university, contributing to the scholarship of teaching and learning with an evidence-based approach to increase student success, and support equity and inclusion in higher education.
