Gideon grew up South Africa, close to Kruger National Park and after graduating from Onderstepoort, University of Pretoria. In 2015 he spent his first year as a vet providing primary veterinary care to rural communities while working as a state veterinarian. He returned to Onderstepoort the following year as an intern in Equine Medicine and Surgery at the equine clinic and at the same time completed his master’s degree evaluating immobilisation anaesthesia in zebras.

In 2018 he made the move to Australia, spending time in Queensland and Western Australia, obtaining membership by examination with the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (Equine Practise) before commencing a surgical residency in a combined program between Charles Sturt University and REC Equine Specialists.

Gideon has a self-confessed obsession with all things equine surgery and has a particular interest in colic, dental and airway surgery.
