Skye is one of Australia’s leading authorities on environmental water and wetland health. Her research team specialised applied interdisciplinary research that supports adaptive management of water for the environment.  Skye and her team have expertise in floodplain hydrology, wetland and floodplain vegetation communities, floodplain dependent frogs, fish, and waterbirds. She has expertise in the design of large-scale monitoring programs to support adaptive management. Skye currently the Murrumbidgee Monitoring, Evaluation and Research Program funded by the Commonwealth Environmental Water Holder and the Basin Evaluation of Species Diversity in partnership with CSIRO.
