Dr. Buck Reed is an experienced academic and researcher. He has been a practicing paramedic since 2007 and has over a decade of experience as an academic including nine years in the paramedicine program at Western Sydney University.  Buck was the first paramedic in the NSW Health Rural Research Capacity Building Program and the first rurally-based paramedic to be awarded a Churchill Fellowship. Buck has presented at over 35 major paramedicine and health conferences around the world.

Buck has spent nearly two decades with NSW Ambulance working as a clinical paramedic, single responder, supervisor, educator, and project manager. Buck still practices clinically in Southwest Sydney. Buck has also worked extensively in event and industrial paramedicine.

Buck has received a number of awards including an AAUT teaching citation, three Vice Chancellors Awards, and three school teaching awards.  Buck has also received several government honours including the National Medal (1st Clasp) and Pandemic Service Medal.

Buck convenes, coordinates or teaching into the following subjects:

  • APS 404 Advanced Care Practicum
  • APS 506 Principles of Extended Care

Buck has specific teaching expertise in clinical simulation (especially in the use of standardised patients), Workplace Integrated Learning and Active Learning.
