Melissa commenced her academic career in 2015, with the focus on NP education, including new platforms for education provision. Prior to joining CSU, Melissa actively contributed to collaborative processes to design, deliver and continually improve high quality courses and learning experiences for students with the introduction of Telehealth for Nurse Practitioners (NP) in 2019, prior to the pandemic, and lobbied to quarantine clinical postgraduate courses specific to nurse practitioner students.

Melissa’s research interests include telehealth, simulation, cancer care, nurse practitioners, and is a member of the CSU Ageing Well – Research Group.

Melissa is a co-investigator with Mid North Coast Cancer Institute Collaborative research - “Investigating health literacy of Stage 4 breast cancer women in rural NSW: approaches to self-empowerment”. This research involves the NSW Health State strategic priories to address and improve the patient, Stage 4 breast cancer, experience. It will integrate the approach to end of life and palliative care by embedding quality improvement and redesign to ensure safer patient care. The endpoint is to meet the needs of more disadvantaged people, and to avoid widening inequalities.
