Melissa has worked in nursing since 2010, with experience in aged care, adult and paediatric emergency, high dependency and intensive care, stroke, palliative care, medical/surgical nursing, patient flow, critical care advisory service, virtual health, metropolitan, and rural and remote nursing. Her current specialties are emergency and critical care. In her nursing career, Melissa has worked in various capacities, including: Registered Nurse, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Acting Clinical Nurse Educator, Nurse Manager, and now Nurse Practitioner. Melissa was the 2019 Western New South Wales Local Health District “Nurse of the Year” and is a current recipient of the Ian O’Rourke scholarship.

Melissa encourages her students to become self-directed learners, critical thinkers, and the absolute best nurse they can possibly be.

Melissa’s research foci include modalities of emergency care provision for residential aged care facility residents and medication safety during events involving resuscitation.

Melissa is a member of the Australian College of Nurse Practitioners and the Australian College of Nursing.
