Julie has specialised in mental health nursing with a focus on child & adolescent and perinatal & infant mental health nursing. Her move to perinatal & infant mental health was a move to the origins of where many mental health disturbances begin.

Julie is an authorised Nurse Practitioner specialising in Perinatal & Infant Mental Health. The opportunities to facilitate change at an important transition in families lives has inspired her to work with many families with complex mental health needs with a strong focus on trauma informed care.

Julie has always been passionate about developing the nursing workforce for the future and inspiring nurses to take up the rewarding challenge that mental health nursing can offer. Her move to academia provides new opportunities to fulfil this plan.

Julie has spent the last 15 years in advanced practice roles in mental health which has given her a wealth of experience in developing and presenting educational programs in clinical settings. She has also presented papers at numerous conferences over that time.

Julie has a strong interest in attachment theory and the development of people throughout the life span. She has been trained in the use of the Adult Attachment Interview and has used this extensively in the clinical setting. She used the AAI to compare other outcome measures used in Perinatal Depression to assess correlations between measures in clients with complex mental health needs. Julie has presented her findings at several international conferences.

Julie is a Fellow of the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses and has provided leadership for the Perinatal & Infant Mental Health Nursing Special Interest Group.
